Oregon-Auburn opener netted nearly 7 million viewers

People were tuned to their television sets and other devices as Oregon and Auburn opened up their season Saturday night at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

The game itself came down to the wire before Auburn pulled away late for a potential season-defining win for embattled head coach Gus Malzahn and Co.

Apparently, the college football world was all about what took place on the field in Texas. According to Show Buzz Daily, this game drew north of 6.8 million viewers, the most-watched matchup of opening weekend. It really wasn’t even that close.

  • Oregon-Auburn: 6.86 million
  • Houston-Oklahoma: 5.44 million
  • Duke-Alabama: 4.64 million
  • Florida-Atlantic-Ohio State: 2.62 million
  • Northwestern-Stanford: 2.02 million

College football on Saturday night is always a draw. It’s why the national networks schedule the biggest games of the weekend in that slot.

Though, it must be noted that these results did not take into account Notre Dame’s win over Louisville on Labor Day. Ratings for that game have yet to be released.
