NFL fines Falcons’ Keanu Neal $28,000 for unnecessary roughness

Dallas Cowboys should target Keanu Neal
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL is handing down fines from the preseason with Week 1 getting going here soon. Earlier on Sunday, it was noted that Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid had been fined $10,500 for a hit on Patriots tight end Ben Watson.

Another NFC South Pro Bowl safety is now facing a stiffer fine. The league has fined Falcons star Keanu Neal $28,000 for unnecessary roughness on a hit he laid on Redskins tight end Jordan Reed that resulted in a concussion.

When it comes to on-field fines, that’s a pretty expensive one. However, Neal did more than enough to warrant it.

Compare and contrast. We’ll let you be the judge there.

In any event, the NFL is finally taking the concussion issue seriously around the league. Once defensive players see it impact their wallets, a larger effort will be made to avoid hits of this ilk.
