K.J. Costello to play for Stanford against UCF

The Stanford Cardinal will have starting quarterback K.J. Costello back in the lineup Saturday for their road game against the UCF Knights.

Head coach David Shaw shared that update Tuesday, noting offensive tackle Walker Little is having season-ending surgery and that inside linebacker Ricky Miezan will miss an extended period of time.

Costello missed the team’s game against USC last Saturday after suffering a head injury in the home opener against Northwestern. The hit he took was brutal, and it should have been a targeting penalty but went uncalled.

Before exiting the game against Northwestern, Costello had completed 16-of-20 passes for 152 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. His replacement, Davis Mills, has been less effective, completing just 58 percent of his passes while throwing one touchdown and one interception.
