It’s not always fun to go to a party when you are enjoying the low-carb lifestyle. It’s never fun to watch NFL games with friends and family when you have to bring your own food.
With that said, you can make a game out of it. That’s especially true when you are on Keto. There are so many awesome recipes out there for snacks and appetizers.
Below, we take a look at 10 of them that are are easy to make and absolutely delicious.
Bacon wrapped brussels sprouts
This is a rather simple way to enjoy the finer part of the Keto lifestyle — bacon. The idea is to roll the bacon outside of the sprouts and either bake or fry.
Personally, I prefer frying them both up and using a toothpick as a utensil to endulge in the snack. It might take more than the 35 minutes per time suggested by Fit Foodie Finds, but it’s darn good. If you decide to bake, it will take about a half-hour and turns out delicious, as well.
The first dessert this one scribe tried on the Keto lifestyle, these cheesecake bites remain a staple. In fact, they are better than most you will find on a regular diet. Green and Keto has the best recipe. It gives you the creamy filling with a almond and cinnamon taste for the crust.
What makes this even better is that you can use some fruit for the toppings. We like to go with blueberries, but that’s personal preference. Just no bananas. Those are a no go on Keto.
Spicy Asian meatballs
A true pleasure. You are able to get that eastern taste without going into carb overload. It’s truly hard to find great asian food while navigating through the Keto lifestyle. But this is a staple.
You can choose pork, beef, turkey or chicken as the base. From there, add diced veggies of your choice. Keto Summit recommends onions, scallions and some fresh herbs. Use whisked egg instead of flour as the binding agent, mix and cook at 400 for 18-22 minutes. This link also has a soy-free and Keto-friendly dipping sauce option. It’s so darn tasty.
The bar food of choice for those on Keto, you can’t go wrong with bacon-stuffed Jalapeno poppers. Instead of the carb-heavy options you see at your favorite watering hole for NFL football games, this recipe combines peppers, cream cheese, bacon and cheddar cheese as the main ingredients.
Perfect Keto recommends frying or nuking the bacon and setting it aside before mixing together the cream cheese, cheddar cheese, salt and pepper. Microwave the mixture for 15 seconds and mix more. Add the mixture to the cut jalapenos on a baking sheet, wrap with the bacon and bake for a cool 15 minutes at 350 degrees. It’s so darn yummy.
Peanut butter fat bombs
Anyone who misses candy bars and the great peanut butter/chocolate combination is going to be in for a treat here. The ingredients include unsweetened baking chocolate, butter, Keto-friendly powdered sugar, vanilla and peanut butter. (Sprouts and other grocery stores have good Keto-friendly peanut butter).
While there’s a lot of recipes out there, we prefer the non-bake option from Low Carb Maven. It’s a tremendous after-dinner treat with two grams of net carbs per serving. Yummy!
Spicy deviled eggs
Anyone who has been on the Keto lifestyle for some time now knows full well that eggs are a staple. But instead of the rut that includes fried eggs every morning with bacon, why not try something new? Deviled eggs are a staple during football parties, and you can now enjoy them without feeling guilty.
We like the recipe from chef Jennifer Banz, who gives you a smoky take on the popular snack. It includes dill pickle relish, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and smoked paprika. It’s an easy snack for the low-carb enthusiasts in your life and includes exactly zero carbs.
Sweet Thai chicken wings
How can you possibly make something this delicious and not worry about your carb intake? Leave it up to Dr. Davinah’s Eats. This is mouth watering in every way. The sauce includes water, unseasoned rice vinegar, garlic cloves, coconut Aminos (or soy sauce for those on dirty Keto), brown sugar replacement, ginger, garlic chili sauce (low-car options available) and sesame oil.
Once you add other ingredients for the wings themselves, bake and baste that mixture all over the tasty pieces of white meat and enjoy. It’s just incredible.
Keto pigs in a blanket
The good old hot dogs wrapped in croissant or dinner roles. It’s a low-carb twist to the ultimate party food, and it’s absolutely amazing. Keto Connect has the best recipe out there.
The dough includes mozzarella cheese (a staple for low-carb crusts), almond flour, eggs, baking powder, garlic powder, salt and sesame seeds. (Pro tip: Trader Joe’s has a great “everything” seasoning mix) that works well, too. Rather simple stuff here. And darn good. Don’t short yourself, either. Go with all-beef hot dogs. It’s well worth the money. Our preference is Nathan’s.
Cauliflower mac and cheese
True story. Once served this at a barbecue. It was gone within 20 minutes and no one had any idea the base was cauliflower, not macaroni. As with almost everything Keto, you can make it better with bacon. Tasty did just that.
The ingredients tell us a story of one mouth-watering snack. Four strips of bacon, fresh cauliflower, salt, cream cheese, heavy cream (a Keto staple), cayenne pepper, paprika and shredded cheese (we like to mix it up with pepper jack and cheddar). Try it on for size. Getting all of your carbs from veggies will make you feel like you can take on Tom Brady and Co. immediately after eating.
Bonus: Good Dee’s Chocolate brownies
We’re all about making your own low-carb snacks. It can be a real blast. But if you’re in a pinch, it’s impossible to do better than this product.
Sometimes, packaged sweets within the confines of the Keto lifestyle can be a drag. That’s not the case here. Get your chocolate fix with this cake-like brownie and don’t look back with just one net carb per. For those really wanting that fix, go with some almond milk to wash it down with.
