Patriots release statement after Patrick Chung indictment

New England Patriots veteran safety Patrick Chung was indicted in New Hampshire earlier this month on cocaine possession charges. It was part of a broader sweep by authorities in the local community that led to almost three dozen indictments.

With the 11th-year safety set to face arraignment next week, the Patriots have released a statement. In what can’t be considered a shocking development, said statement really didn’t say much.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung. We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place,” the Patriots noted.

Chung, 32, has been a fixture in New England’s defense since the team made him a second-round pick back in 2009. He’s started 11-plus games each of the past five seasons and has earned three Super Bowl titles with the team.

Given the seriousness of the indictment, we’re expecting the NFL to look into this situation. In turn, Chung’s future on the Patriots could very well be in jeopardy.
