A breakout season for one of the St. Louis Cardinals top prospects paid off on Thursday when the organization promoted outfielder Dylan Carlson to Triple-A Memphis.

The 20-year-old opened at Double-A Springfield and posted the best number in his minor-league career. Carlson posted a .281/.364/.518 slash line with 21 home runs, 18 stolen bases and 24 doubles in 108 games.

Ranked as the organization’s No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline and the No. 27 overall prospect in MLB by Baseball America, the switch-hitter has skyrocketed up prospect rankings this season.

While he’s not expected to make his MLB debut this season, Carlson’s rapid climb through the minors could earn him a shot to compete for a spot with St. Louis in spring training next season.
