Cardinals rookie WR Hakeem Butler placed on IR, out for season

Hakeem Butler

The Arizona Cardinals will have to wait until next year to see if rookie receiver Hakeem Butler has the chops to make it at the NFL level.

The team announced that Butler is being placed in injured reserve, ending his season with a hand injury. Additionally, safety Josh Shaw was placed on injured reserve following shoulder injury suffered in the team’s first preseason game.

Butler came out of Iowa State with some pretty nice hype. He regularly made circus catches look routine last season playing for the Cyclones, hauling in a total of 60 passes for 1,318 yards and nine touchdowns. That big-play ability figured to be a boon for rookie Kyler Murray, and Butler was expected to compete for serious playing time as a rookie in Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.

Needless to say, this injury was disappointing for Butler, and for the Cardinals as well.
