WATCH: Phillies’ Scott Kingery makes jaw-dropping catch to save run

When the Philadelphia Phillies returned from the All-Star Break on Friday, they needed someone to step up and provide a spark. Outfielder Scott Kingery might have just provided it with one of the best catches this year in a huge situation.

The Washington Nationals already held a two-run lead with two runners on in the third inning and an opportunity to break the game open. First baseman Ryan Zimmerman drilled a ball into the gap when Kingery sprinted to left-center field and made a diving grab with his body fully extended.

While Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton was able to score on the sacrifice fly, Kingery’s jaw-dropping play prevented another run from scoring and helped avoid even further trouble for Philadelphia.

Kingery’s defensive wizard just adds to an excellent season by the 25-year-old. He entered Friday with a .292/.344/.545 slash line, 11 home runs and a .889 OPS.
