Report: Heat front office loves Russell Westbrook

Jaime Valdez-USA TODAY Sports

Following the blockbuster trade that sent Paul George to team up with Kawhi Leonard on the Los Angeles Clippers, it appears that the Oklahoma City Thunder might be starting a rebuild.

Former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook met with Thunder general manager Sam Presti in Saturday. Part of the conversation included the possibility of a trade.

One team potentially interested in Westbrook is the Miami Heat. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Heat absolutely love Westbrook.

Whether this means a trade can be worked out remains to be seen. Miami is up against the cap after acquiring Jimmy Butler in a sign-and trade. The team also doesn’t have a ton of assets to work with after having moved multiple first-round picks in separate recent trades.

Any move to acquire Westbrook would have to include Miami sending away the contracts of Goran Dragic and James Johnson, two players that likely wouldn’t be of interest for Oklahoma City. From there, Justise Winslow, Derrick Jones Jr. and rookie first-round picks Tyler Herro become possibilities.
