Mike Gundy: Oklahoma State nowhere near to naming starting QB

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have no clue who will end up starting at quarterback heading into summer camp and the looming 2019 college football season.

Mike Gundy, speaking to reporters during Big 12 Media Days Monday, made it clear he and his staff are nowhere near making a decision.

The two players who have the best chance to earn the starting job are redshirt senior Dru Brown and reshirt freshman Spencer Sanders. Redshirt freshman Shaun Taylor and true freshman Brendan Costello will be competing, but neither is expected to challenge for that position.

That said, based on Gundy’s admission Monday, it seems like the job is as up for grabs as they come in college football.

The quarterback who does start will have to be a mobile passer due to the influence of offensive line coach Charlie Dickey and offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson — both of whom have vast experience coaching a scheme that utilizes plenty of quarterback runs.
