Max Scherzer ‘very doubtful’ to start Tuesday after missing bullpen session

Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer was scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday but was unable to do so, per manager Dave Martinez. As a result, Scherzer is also unlikely to pitch Tuesday as scheduled.

Scherzer is dealing with a sore back that has plagued him since Friday morning following a sub-par start Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.

When healthy, the 35-year-old is still one of the most dominant pitchers in MLB today. Through 134.1 innings of work so far in 2019, Scherzer has posted a 2.41 ERA, 0.99 WHIP with 189 strikeouts and a 9.5 record.
