Report: Marcus Stroman initially upset with trade to Mets, caused ‘commotion’ in clubhouse

The Toronto Blue Jays dealt with what was reported as “commotion” in their clubhouse Sunday after Marcus Stroman was traded to the New York Mets.

When it happened, we speculated that it might have been tied to that trade. Now, per Mike Puma of the New York Post, that speculation has been confirmed.

Honestly, it’s understandable that Stroman was upset. He’s in the middle of a career year — 2.96 ERA with 99 strikeouts in 124.2 innings of work — and had been mentioned as a player contenders were targeting.

The Mets are many things these days. Contender is not one of those things, however. Needless to say, it must have felt like a punch in the gut for Stroman to realize he was headed to the armpit of the National League, rather than competing for a title.
