Miami Dolphins assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell will be stepping away from the team for the 2019 season.
Caldwell announced on Saturday that he’s taking a leave of absence to deal with some health concerns.
“I will be stepping back due to some medical complications that require my full attention,” Caldwell said, via the Dolphins official website. “I want to thank Stephen Ross, Chris Grier, Coach Flores and the rest of the organization for the support they have given me and my family.”
Caldwell, 64, joined the Dolphins’ staff under first-year head coach Chris Grier back in February. The idea was to have him help with young quarterback Josh Rosen.
Best known for leading the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl in his first season as a head coach back in 1999, Caldwell has been in the coaching ranks since all the way back in 1977 when he was a graduate assistant for Iowa.
More recently, Caldwell acted as the Detroit Lions’ head coach from 2014-17, posting a 36-28 record.
