David Dahl, the All-Star outfielder for the Colorado Rockies, was removed from Wednesday’s game with the San Francisco Giants after fouling a ball off of his left foot.
Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reported that “The club announced he had a left foot contusion and said he was ‘day-to-day.'”
Dahl initially remained in the game. He drew a walk, ran the bases, and even returned to the field the following inning. One inning after that, though, he was replaced by Garrett Hampson in center field.
A season ago, Dahl played in only 77 games. A good portion of the missed time was due to fouling a ball off of his right foot. Fortunately, this is the other foot.
This isn’t exactly welcome news for the Rockies, who are struggling on the field and dealing with other injuries. If Dahl is forced to miss any significant time, it would be a sizable blow. He’s hitting .303/.350/.523 with 13 home runs on the season.
