Daniel Jones ‘might’ get first-team reps this summer, Pat Shurmur says

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur is doing everything he can to keep the narrative that Daniel Jones may push Eli Manning for the starting job alive.

Despite multiple reports indicating there is absolutely no battle for the job, Shurmur told reporters on Tuesday that getting Jones first-team snaps “might happen” this summer.

“We have a plan for how this is all going to play out,” Shurmur explained, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “Just let it unfold for you.”

Given the way things have played out at the receiver position so far during the first week of camp, it might not be a good idea to throw Jones to the wolves any time soon.

Yet if Manning struggles to open the season like he did last year, and if the Giants end up losing games, then nobody should be surprised to see the rookie play in 2019.

Certainly, the Giants have given us every indication that outcome is on the table.
