Bruce Bochy ecstatic to finish final season with Madison Bumgarner

The San Francisco Giants were one of the biggest winners of the MLB trade deadline, keeping Madison Bumgarner while adding other significant pieces.

Manager Bruce Bochy, who is retiring after the 2019 season, expressed just how much keeping Bumgarner means to him.

“I’m happy, no getting around that, that he’s still here,” Bochy said, per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic. “It means so much to me to have him here for the rest of my tenure here. It is pretty cool. No question, it is good news for me.”

A player most experts expected to be traded, Bumgarner helped the Giants make an incredible surge in recent weeks. San Francisco was well out of the playoff hunt just a month ago. Now the Giants are just 2.5 games out of being in the Wild Card Game.

Needless to say, it would be something special if the Giants can reward Bochy with a run at a title in his final year. Having Bumgarner on board gives them a better chance of doing that.
