Baker Mayfield on relationship with disgruntled teammate Duke Johnson: ‘We’re good’

Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson has reason to be a bit upset with teammate Baker Mayfield for comments the quarterback made during minicamp.

Johnson has requested a trade, and he recently went so far as to fire his old agent and hire super agent Drew Rosenhaus to facilitate that request.

After Johnson said publicly that he felt “unwanted” by the Browns and still wanted to be traded during minicamp, Mayfield fired back with some comments that reportedly had even other veterans on the team a bit upset.

So, Johnson could be justified if he held a bit of a grudge.

However, when Mayfield was asked about their relationship on Thursday, he said the two talked about things and that “we’re good.”

The Browns have made it clear that Johnson is part of their overall plan this year, and it continues to look like they will not trade him.

“We’ve said from the very beginning that Duke is a Cleveland Brown,” head coach Freddie Kitchens said during the opening press conference of training camp Wednesday, per Cleveland.com. “He signed a contract last year. He’s going to be here, he’s going to have a role in our offense and he’s going to have a significant role in our offense. He’s a productive player. We’re not giving away good players, ok?”

With that in mind, it’s a good thing that the running back and his quarterback can put the past behind them and move on. This team has declared Super Bowl aspirations in 2019, but any locker-room issues could throw a wrench in their plans.
