Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton progressing in return to the diamond

After battling injuries to many of their stars for much of the season, it appears good news is finally hitting the New York Yankees and star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.

According to Pete Caldera of USA Today Network, Stanton played in an extended spring training game and hit a home run then ran the bases. It could be a big step that leads to a short minor-league rehab stint.

Stanton suffered a setback in late May with a calf injury before a rehab game. After some more time off, the All-Star slugger is now taking further steps forward to finally making his return to the field.

As he closes in on a return, he’ll join a lineup that already grew stronger this weekend with the return of shortstop Didi Gregorius. New York is getting healthy and already sitting at a 39-22 record, one of the league’s best teams is about to get a lot better.
