Twitter reacts to De’Andre Hunter wearing a Lakers’ hat

It’s a tradition like any other. Because of specific NBA rules, young men walk onto the stage at the Barclays Center after hearing their name called and put on the hat of a team they will never play for.

There was no more hilarious example than on Thursday night when De’Andre Hunter was selected with the fourth overall pick and walked on to the stage with a Los Angeles Lakers hat on and the Lakers’ logo in the background.

The Lakers traded the No. 4 overall pick to the New Orleans Pelicans as part of the blockbuster Anthony Davis trade. Then on Thursday, New Orleans traded the pick to the Atlanta Hawks in a big draft-day deal.

It all created for some great reactions on social media to the utter ridiculousness of Hunter having to wear Lakers’ gear on national television.

Hopefully someone can get Hunter some Hawks gear quickly so he can enjoy the rest of his night wearing gear for the team that he will actually play for.
