Rockets and Mike D’Antoni nearing agreement on extension

Rockets head coach Mike D'Antoni

Just a short while after extension negotiations broke down, it appears that the Houston Rockets and head coach Mike D’Antoni will in fact be coming to terms here soon.

According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the two sides rekindled conversations recently with an agreement expected here soon.

It was previously noted that Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta lowballed D’Antonio in past extension talks. That’s apparently not the case here, especially given the report that he removed any potential buyout options.

D’Antonio is set to coach out the 2019-20 as a lame duck. He’s led the Rockets to a 173-73 record in three seasons as their head coach.

As it relates to Houston’s roster, it still looks like major changes are ahead during the summer after the team dropped in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Golden State Warriors.
