Padres’ SS Fernando Tatis Jr. activated off injured list

After missing more than a month with a hamstring injury, Fernando Tatis Jr. will rejoin the San Diego Padres on Thursday after being activated off the injured list.

San Diego announced the move on Thursday afternoon and will welcome Tatis Jr. back from the injured list after the club exercised caution with their young star’s hamstring.

Tatis Jr. last played on April 28 when he injured his hamstring on an awkward play. The club brought him along slowly in order to make sure he avoided any setbacks with the soft-tissue injury and will now see its star infielder return.

The 20-year-old shortstop racked up 30 hits in his first 100 MLB at-bats and drove in 13 runs with six home runs over that span. He really started to heat up in April with a .968 OPS over 23 games.

Tatis Jr.’s return will allow Manny Machado to slide back to third base, a position he excels at defensively. The move should help him rebound and push the Padres back over a .500 winning percentage this season.
