As the Dallas Cowboys continue to draw out contract extension talks with quarterback Dak Prescott, Hall of Famer Michael Irvin didn’t hold back on Friday with his thoughts on Prescott’s future in Dallas.
In an interview with 105.3 The Fan, Irvin said that if the Cowboys fail to extend Prescott, it’s over for the team and would send a troubling sign to the entire locker room.
“If they don’t pay Dak, we can all pack it up and go home. It’s over,” Irvin said, via 105.3 The Fan. “How are you going to get anything out of the other guys if they’re seeing that you aren’t taking care of the top guy? Why should I give you all I got? You got to be smart about this, and this is a no-brainer.”
Irvin implored Dallas to get a deal done as soon as possible, given every minute that passes by without a deal, it will only cost the organization more money.
If the Cowboys are unable to reach an extension with Prescott, he would become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. While the Cowboys could apply the franchise tag, quarterback salaries are going up across the NFL and will only get higher with each passing deal.
As outside pressure from fans, media and Hall of Famers mounts on Dallas to get a deal done, it could all play well into Prescott’s future. He is an integral part of this team’s success and if he is their top priority, the time is now to prove it.
