Cowboys OC: We’ll feed Ezekiel Elliott ‘as many touches as we can’

Ezekiel Elliott

Will the Dallas Cowboys feed Zeke? Based on what offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said of Ezekiel Elliott, the star running back will be feasting in 2019.

The rookie coordinator he plans on getting Elliott as much work as he can handle while acknowledging the need to show wisdom about the running back’s workload.

“At the end of the day, we want to get him as many touches as we can,” Moore said, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “At the same time, you got to recognize what a 16-plus game season is…We’ll see how it progresses (w/ the other RBs), but if we can get it to Zeke, we’re gonna get it to Zeke.”

Since being selected fourth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, the former Buckeyes star has undeniably been one of the NFL’s best.

He’s also been one of the biggest workhorses in the league. A dual-threat back who is just as dangerous catching passes as he is pounding the rock, Elliott averages 25 touches per game.

Of course, the reason he touches the ball so often for the ‘Boys is that Elliott makes big plays on a regular basis. He averages 101.2 yards per game from scrimmage and has scored 34 touchdowns in three seasons.

The interesting dynamic at play here is that Dallas is set to pay Dak Prescott like an elite quarterback. Yet the Cowboys offense undeniably runs through Elliott, and it appears it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of contracts, Elliott is also due for a big raise soon. Another monster season in 2019 will only strengthen his case.
