Pretty much a bust since the Minnesota Vikings made him a first-round pick back in 2016, receiver Laquon Treadwell’s might not be long in Minnesota.
The team announced on Wednesday that it has declined the fifth-year option on Treadwell’s contract.
In no way should this come as a surprise. Treadwell, 23, has recorded just 56 receptions for 517 yards and one touchdown in three NFL seasons. He tallied a total of one catch as a rookie back in 2016.
Given that Minnesota is paying Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen top-end money, it made no sense to pay Treadwell $9.4 million for the 2020 season.
There’s also a chance that Minnesota looks to trade Treadwell before the 2019 season. There was some mention of this heading into the 2019 NFL Draft.
As it is, the big-bodied receiver has one more season to prove his worth before he hits free agency next March.
