Thunder’s Russell Westbrook, Paul George undergo surgery

The Oklahoma City Thunder were marred by serious injuries to their star tandem of Russell Westbrook and Paul George during a brief playoff run that resulted in a first-round exit.

Westbrook underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ligament in a finger on his left hand. He also underwent another surgery to clean up some issues with his right knee.

While Westbrook should be good to go for training camp, George is another story. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Royce Young, the MVP candidate underwent rotator cuff surgery to repair a partially torn tendon in his right shoulder. The expectation here is that George will miss at least the start of camp.

The two insiders also noted that George will soon go under the knife to fix a tear in the labrum of his left shoulder.

This could potentially explain why Oklahoma City struggled down the stretch. The team lost 13 of its final 22 regular season games before dropping in the first round to Portland in five games.
