Stephen Strasburg becomes fastest MLB pitcher to 1,500 strikeouts

Washington Nationals All-Star Stephen Strasburg made history during his start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday evening.

By fanning opposing pitcher Dakota Hudson in the fifth inning, Strasburg earned the 1,500th strike out of career. He’s now the fastest player in Major League Baseball history to that milestone.

It’s taken the three-time All-Star parts of 10 years to reach this benchmark. More than anything, that has to do with the multitude of injuries Strasburg has suffered throughout his career.

This doesn’t make Strasburg’s accomplishment any less amazing. Given those who have taken to the bump in the long and heralded history of the game, that’s magnified even further.

When healthy, Strasburg has proven to be among the most-dominant pitchers in modern baseball history. He’s now being recognized for it in the history books.
