Shohei Ohtani active and batting third for Angels

Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Angels lineup is about to get a boost. Shohei Ohtani will be active for the first time since undergoing Tommy John Surgery.

The Angels announced that Ohtani, the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, will be active for Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Tigers.

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times noted that Ohtani will bat third on Tuesday. Alden Gonzalez of ESPN added that while Ohtani will have some scheduled off days, he won’t be used specifically in a platoon setting.

Ohtani had been progressing nicely with his rehab.

Ohtani will not pitch for Los Angeles until next season. But he does promise to provide a boost to the offense that enters Tuesday’s game hitting .240/.321/.409.

In 2018, he hit .285/.361/.564 with 22 home runs in 10 steals in only 326 at-bats for the Halos.
