Report: Lakers working towards offer for Tyronn Lue

After missing out on hiring Monty Williams to be the next head coach, it appears the Los Angeles Lakers have zeroed in on the next man to coach the historical franchise and superstar LeBron James.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are pushing forward with an offer to Tyronn Lue. Los Angeles is so focused on Lue that the team is now no longer considering new candidates for its coaching search, according to the report.

The background: Lue became an obvious pick for Los Angeles when the job opened up thanks to his heavy ties to LeBron.

  • Lue served as the Cleveland Cavaliers coach from 2015-’18, working closely with James and winning a championship in his first season as the coach.
  • He compiled a 128-83 record in the regular season with a 41-20 record during the postseason.

The chance to coach James again and do it in Los Angeles could be more than tempting for the 42-year-old coach seeking to get back to the bench and coach a potential playoff team.

It may not be long before the Lakers make an official offer to Lue and he becomes the team’s next coach as they look to make it back into the postseason.
