Colts’ Eric Ebron taking aim at Gronk’s single-season TD record

Eric Ebron had a fantastic season during his first campaign with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, and he’s looking to take things to another level this coming season.

Last season, Ebron set career highs in catches (66), yards (750) and touchdowns (13) hauling in passes from Andrew Luck.

Looking ahead to 2019, he has his sights set on matching Rob Gronkowski’s single-season record of 17 touchdowns.

“I believe Gronk still holds the record for most touchdowns (by a tight end), which is 17,” Ebron said, per George Brenner of the Herald Bulletin. “So if I want to do anything that’s gonna be real spectacular or anything that’s gonna be really good, I gotta go get 17. And if I go get 17, what do I do? I help my team win games. I did that, proved that and I feel like if I’m at my best, I feel like this team will be at their best.”

Quite honestly, given the way he played in his first season with Indy that goal isn’t absurd. He and Luck had tremendous chemistry in the red zone, and the entire offense clicked under the direction of rookie head coach Frank Reich.

We recently posited that Indianapolis was the Super Bowl contender nobody is talking about. If Ebron is able to reach his goal, then the Colts will certainly have a shot to live up to that prediction.
