Sebastian Janikowski to retire after 19 years in the NFL

This seemed inevitable after a rough season in Seattle last year. Sebastian Janikowski is going to retire after 19 seasons as a placekicker in the NFL.

Adam Schefter shared Janikowski’s news on Sunday after the kicker spoke with ESPN.

Sebastian Janikowski told ESPN that, after 19 seasons, he is retiring from NFL at the age of 41: “It was a good run. I still think of the Super Bowl – it still hurts.” He plans to turn into a cab driver, taking his 3 girls to school. Seabass made more $ than any K in NFL history.

Originally a first-round pick by Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders, Janikowski spent 18 seasons with the team that drafted him.

Just ahead of the 2017 campaign, he was placed on injured reserve due to a back injury — missing the entire season that year. Then, ahead of last season, he was informed the Raiders were not going to bring him back.

Janikowski played in Seattle last year, making 22-of-27 field goals and 48-of-51 extra points.

Over the course of his legendary career, Janikowski made 80.4 percent of his field goals. He exits the game with numerous NFL records, including longest field goal in overtime (57 yards), most 50-plus yard field goals (58), and is tied with Greg Zuerlein for most 60-plus yard field goals (two).
