Padres news: Manny Machado’s first home run

Two of the winter’s prized free agents have made early impacts for their new teams.

One day after Bryce Harper hit a massive homer for the Phillies against his former Nationals squad, Manny Machado was at it for the San Diego Padres.

Taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks and reliever Matt Andriese Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park, Machado blasted this line drive homer over the left field fence for a two-run shot.

Unlike Harper in Philadelphia, Machado has struggled early in his Padres career. He entered Wednesday’s action hitting .217 with one RBI in six games.

But this shot gave San Diego a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh as the team looks to avoid a sweep at the hands of Arizona.
