Cubs make wrong kind of early-season history

The Chicago Cubs have struggled mightily in the early days of the season. In fact, they’ve struggled more than any Cubs staff has in more than 60 years.

Chicago pitchers issued their 39th unintentional walk against the Braves on Thursday. Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN, no Cubs staff has issued that many free passes this early in the year since 1958.

Yikes.

It’s numbers like this that explain why Chicago hasn’t won since Opening Day. And we can bet that the wins will come few and far between until this problem is fixed.

And unless you’re brand new to baseball, you know that the Cubs have fielded their fair share of terrible teams over the last 61 years. A futility mark for this franchise is nothing to sneeze at.
