Alex Avila placed on D-backs’ injured list after getting hurt on home run trot

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Alex Avila was rounding the bases following a home run last Friday when he suffered an injury that has since required a stint on the injured list.

The Diamondbacks placed Avila on the injured list Sunday, calling up utility player Tim Locastro from Triple-A Reno.

Here’s the home run, and you can tell that Avila was quite uncomfortable as he went toward second base.

“He was gearing up to get to second base, and when he saw it went over the fence he kind of geared down and felt it grab,” manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday, per the Associated Press. “We don’t think it is going to be anything that is too lengthy.”

So far this season, Avila has been hot at the plate, hitting .333 with two homers and five RBI in six games.
