Lakers’ Rajon Rondo speaks out about drama Wednesday night

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Lakers guard Rajon Rondo was in the news for all the wrong reasons late Wednesday night.

During the final seconds of Los Angeles’ blowout loss to the Denver Nuggets at the Staples Center, Rondo was seen sitting with fans in the front row rather than with his teammates.

It most definitely wasn’t a great look.

Less than 24 hours after the incident in question, Rondo took to his Instagram account to talk about the situation and put naysayers on absolute blast.

“Let me help y’all out. Since everyone wants to over analyze, gaslight, and over interpret situations, let me help y’all with your due diligence,” Rondo wrote. “The real story that everyone should be talking about right now is how my teammate, Lebron James, accomplished a huge milestone in last night’s game.”

Rondo is referring to LeBron James passing Michael Jordan for fourth all-time on the NBA scoring list. What he’s missing here is that James’ otherworldly accomplishment was in fact the biggest story of the night, not the veteran guard’s exploits.

Rondo did go on to praise James for his crowning achievement.

“What he has accomplished in this game shows where hard work, dedication, and perseverance can take you. It shows little kids that don’t come from privilege that success is attainable,” the NBA champ wrote. “It shows that no one can tell you how great you can be. Y’all are so busy analyzing what happened in the last 48 seconds of the game that y’all missed the opportunity to highlight, congratulate, and praise Lebron wholeheartedly on his accomplishment.”

But that didn’t stop him from continuing his assault.

“Most of y’all have made a career out of discussing Lebron James, and y’all can’t pay the man some respect. Since y’all missed it, let me do it publicly. Congratulations Lebron on EVERYTHING. You deserve all the success and happiness that God and the Universe has to offer. Congratulations My Brother. Keep being great!”

It’s possible to separate criticism of Rondo from throwing accolades in James’ direction. For the most part, that’s what the media did Wednesday evening.

Needless to say, it’s been a drama-filled and frustrating season for the Lakers. Rondo is certainly showing that here. Even then, it’s not a great look.
