Michigan State’s Kyle Ahrens went up for a rebound and came down hard, and awkwardly, on his left ankle during Sunday’s Big Ten Championship Game. The result was a horrific injury that was so gruesome we’re not going to show it here.
The players and coaches on both sides were in tears, along with Ahrens, after witnessing the awful injury firsthand.
Nick Ward in tears. Matt McQuaid just about trembling. The last guy to give Ahrens a hug on the way out is Josh Langford on his rolling scooter.

When Kyle Ahrens got wheeled out and his mom and dad came down to meet him, you could read his lips. He told his mom he was sorry. That dude just wants to play basketball.

When Ahrens was carted off the floor, and as he lifted his arm and pounded his chest all in attendance cheered him on.
The support the young man received, both live and on social media, was overwhelming.
I'm actually so sad for Ahrens right now. That kid has given everything to this team and he's in serous pain. Players look to be verging on tears.

Prayers up for Ahrens. Awful to see happen at any time, but especially at this stage of the season.

Ahrens has been a tough mofo all year.. doesn’t complain, just works hard and plays his role 110%.. hate to see that happen to a kid like him
