John Harbaugh on Terrell Suggs leaving: It wasn’t about money

One of the most shocking moves thus far in NFL free agency was Future Hall of Famer Terrell Suggs’ decision to leave the Baltimore Ravens after spending the first 16 years of his career with the team.

A legend in Baltimore, Suggs decided to sign a one-year, $7 million contract with the Arizona Cardinals. It returns Suggs to the same community that saw him star with the Arizona State Sun Devils earlier in the millennium.

In talking about Suggs’ decision to leave, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh indicated that it had nothing to do with money. Instead, it was about Suggs’ family and relocating closer to home.

At 36 years old, Suggs is certainly thinking about his post-NFL career. It’s something older veterans have to take into account when it comes to the latter stages of their careers.

This doesn’t make it any easier for Suggs and his former Ravens team. After all, he’s right up there with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed as the greatest defensive players in franchise history.

Over the course of his 16-year career in Baltimore, Suggs tallied 132.5 sacks and earned seven trips to the Pro Bowl. The Super Bowl champion will certainly be missed.
