Dolphins reportedly tried trading for Matthew Stafford before 2018 season

Matthew Stafford

The Miami Dolphins reportedly tried to pull off a mega trade with the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford before the start of the 2018 season.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported Tuesday that the Dolphins were already looking for a replacement for Ryan Tannehill before last season, and that they were in contact with the Lions about potentially trading for Stafford.

The Lions obviously didn’t take the bait, but this shows just how long it’s been since the Dolphins were content with Tannehill’s performance. Additionally, it shows just how desperate the team was to win last year.

Now that Tannehill is gone and the team is rebuilding once more, it also explains why many reports indicate the team is more than willing to lose big in 2019 in order to land a certain college quarterback in 2020.
