A series of injuries suffered by Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Steven Souza Jr. in an exhibition game on Monday will unfortunately cost him the 2019 season.

Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reported the news on Tuesday, citing myriad of brutal injuries.

The 2019 season was to be Souza’s second with the Diamondbacks. In 2018, he hit .220/.309/.369 with five home runs in 72 games. His best season came as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2017. That year, Souza hit .239/.351/.459 with 30 home runs.

We know that Souza will miss all of 2019. Beyond that, anything is just speculation. But suffering any one of those injuries is bad enough. Coming back from all of them will certainly lead to a long road back for Souza.
