Report: Jack Del Rio favored to be next Bengals DC

Raiders Jack Del Rio is one of the NFL head coaches who needs to be fired

Zac Taylor is officially the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. And he’s reportedly hoping that Jack Del Rio will soon join his staff.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network noted that Del Rio is going to interview for the defensive coordinator position. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport added that Del Rio should actually be considered the favorite.

Taylor, who will be 36 when he coaches his first game in 2019, is still a young coach. As such, it makes sense that he’d want to stack his coaching staff with experienced people. Del Rio certainly qualifies.

Del Rio was out of the NFL in 2018. He most recently served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders, a position he held from 2015-2017. He was also the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-2011.

In addition to his head coaching experience, Del Rio has twice served as a defensive coordinator. Once with the Carolina Panthers (2002) and the Denver Broncos (2012-2014).
