WATCH: Chesson Hadley putts ball into water at Phoenix Open

Chesson Hadley drove the green on the 17th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday. After that, the hole took a decidedly downhill turn.

Hadley had a long putt for eagle. Unfortuantely for him, the putt caught the ridge and fell not only off of the green, but into the nearby water.

Weekend hackers everywhere are no doubt smiling at this one. It can indeed happen to the pros, too.

Hadley went from a potential eagle and a likely birdie to a double-bogey.

Hadley also bogeyed the 18th hole. He had a disastrous back-nine, shooting a four-over 40 to finish the day at an even-par 71. Things would have looked a lot better if he’d only kept his putt dry.
