Report: Matt Rhule not leaving Baylor for the Jets

Baylor head coach Matt Rhule

A report earlier on Wednesday indicated that Baylor head football coach Matt Rhule was likely the New York Jets’ choice to be the team’s new head coach — replacing the recently fired Todd Bowles.

Apparently that’s not the case. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Rhule has informed his coaching staff in Waco that he will not be leaving the program for the Jets.

We’re not really too sure what happened behind the scenes with Rhule and the Jets. Coaching in the NFL is an upward move for the former Temple coach. Obviously, he doesn’t view it that way.

Rhule, 43, took over a scandalous Baylor program back in 2017 — ultimately turning things around to the tune of a 7-6 mark and a bowl win this past season. He’s seen as an up-and-coming head coaching candidate.

It just won’t be with the Jets.
