Patrick Mahomes is the greatest testament to the idea that Kliff Kingsbury has the potential to produce at a high level in the NFL. The two of them worked together at Texas Tech, and Kingsbury’s offense helped Mahomes become the No. 10 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
So it’s not surprising that Mahomes is strongly endorsing his former head coach as having excellent pro potential.
“I think he could be a great NFL head coach,” Mahomes said, via James Palmer of NFL Media (h/t Pro Football Talk). “He has the work ethic. He has the passion for the game. I know he loves the sport, and I know he’s going to be able to relate to quarterbacks. He would put in the work, and now it’s about him finding out where he needs to be.”
Of course, we’ll all find out soon enough if Kingsbury has what it takes to be a successful head coach in the NFL. He’s reportedly inking a deal with the Arizona Cardinals to take over the vacancy left by Steve Wilks, who went one-and-done.
Kingsbury wasn’t very successful at the collegiate level. He went 35-40 at Texas Tech, and during Mahomes’ tenure the Red Raiders went 16-21. He went 1-2 in bowl games as well, losing his final two.
