NFL officially changes Cody Parkey’s miss to a Treyvon Hester block

Confirming what video evidence showed following Sunday night’s wild-card game in Chicago, the NFL has changed Cody Parkey’s missed field goal to a block by Treyvon Hester, Tom Pelissero passed along Monday.

Not that this will make Parkey — who handled the disappointing outcome as well as anyone possibly could — feel any better about the outcome. But it is an important distinction.

Parkey did appear to hit a true kick, but the glancing deflection caused by Hester’s fingertips clearly altered the trajectory of the ball, which of course ended up double-boinking off the upright and crossbar, ultimately falling short.

So, while Parkey, the Chicago Bears and their fans try to absorb the brutal outcome, fans in Philly are rejoicing as their team continues its postseason campaign.
