We’re hoping everything is okay surrounding Atlanta Falcons pass rusher Takkarist McKinley.

Just finishing up his second season in the NFL, something went horribly wrong for the former first-round pick in Southern California on Tuesday.

According to this report from TMZ Sports, McKinley was detained by police at a hotel and is currently undergoing a mental health evaluation.

“McKinley was with a friend at a high-end hotel around noon when something happened and the friend became concerned about McKinley’s well-being. We’re told the friend called police for help,” the report noted. We’re told cops spoke with McKinley who agreed it was in his best interest to get help and he cooperated and left with police.”

McKinley was not arrested or booked on any charges. Instead, he went with the police to be checked out.

As a developing story and given the sensitive subject matter, there’s no reason to speculate about what might have happened.

We’ll have further information as it becomes available.
