Chiefs fire longtime DC Bob Sutton

Despite earning a trip to the AFC Championship Game and being an overtime loss to the Patriots from a Super Bowl appearance, changes are in store for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The team announced on Tuesday that it has fired longtime defensive coordinator Bob Sutton.

There was speculation following Sunday’s loss to the Patriots that Sutton would be fired after six less-than-impressive seasons as the team’s defensive coordinator.

This past year saw Kansas City rank in the bottom 10 in numerous categories.

  • Yards allowed: 31st
  • Points per game: 24th
  • Rushing defense: 27th
  • passing defense: 31st

Sutton-led defenses in Kansas City failed to finish better than 24th in yards allowed in each of the past three seasons.

Issues on that side of the ball were magnified during the AFC Championship Game.

Despite boasting Justin Houston and Dee Ford, the Chiefs failed to get to Tom Brady for a single sack in the overtime loss.
