Yankees to meet with Manny Machado in Vegas

Now that the MLB Winter Meetings are underway in Las Vegas, we’re going to start hearing rumors about potential signings and trades.

Among the most-active teams already this offseason, the New York Yankees figure to be among those making news in Vegas.

That now reportedly includes the team meeting with prized free agent, shortstop Manny Machado. At least, that’s the word from Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.

As Heyman notes, the Yankees are not willing to dole out $300-plus million to Machado. Whether they land the former Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers star will be heavily dependent on how Machado’s market plays out.

The 26-year-old has noted that he wants to continue playing shortstop rather than move back to third base.

New York has a solid man at short in that of Didi Gregorius, but it’s obvious Machado would be a major upgrade. He hit .297 with 37 homers and 107 RBI between Baltimore and Los Angeles last season.
