Report: Lakers have no interest in Carmelo Anthony

The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly are not interested in landing Houston Rockets forward Carmelo Anthony, despite a report that LeBron James wanted it to happen.

Joe Vardon of The Athletic reported recently that James wanted to bring his Banana Boat friend to Los Angeles.

However, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times notes James has not spoken to Magic Johnson or Rob Pelinka about making it happen while reporting the team “has no interest in acquiring Carmelo Anthony.”

We know that Anthony’s time in Houston is over. However, the only reason any Carmelo-to-LA rumor would be surprising in any way is if a report emerged that he actually was headed to the Lakers. As prolific a scorer as he’s been throughout his career, Melo is washed now, folks.

Appearing in just 10 games this year for Houston, Anthony has been a shell of his former self, averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He would not add anything positive to the dynamic in Los Angeles and would only get in the way of younger players developing.
