Ravens’ Eric Weddle has $1 million on the line in Week 17

Ravens safety Eric Weddle intercepts a pass

To retain their lead in the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens (9-6) need to beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 17. A win would not only secure a playoff slot, but would earn veteran safety Eric Weddle a cool $1 million bonus.

Achieving Pro Bowl status, which happened earlier in December, and a playoff appearance are tied to a $1 million incentive in Weddle’s contract. Though, humbly, Weddle said that earning the bonus money is not his main priority.

“I would trade one million bucks for a chance at the playoffs any second,” Weddle said, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “That’s just where I’m at. It’s not that I don’t appreciate money or how much money it is, but that’s not my incentive to try to go to win.”

According to ESPN, the Ravens have an 82.3 percent chance at making the postseason. A win for the Ravens is a must if the Pittsburgh Steelers also win Sunday when playing the Cincinnati Bengals.

Weddle also spoke on the incentive which he would have earned last year had the Ravens not lost their chance at making it to the postseason.

“I didn’t lose $1 million. I never had it to begin with,” Weddle said after the game. “But I did lose out on a chance to win a Super Bowl. That is what I am mad about.”

Weddle enters this Sunday’s home game against Cleveland after seeing his Ravens fall to the Browns back in Week 5. Obviously, everything will be on the line when the two teams take to the field for their Week 17 finale.
