Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis might very well be coaching his final handful of games with the team.

Having been on the hot seat for some time now, the Packers’ decision to fire head coach Mike McCarthy has brought up renewed talk about Lewis’ future in Cincinnati.

In addressing this on Monday, the long-embattled head coach laughed off the idea that he’s been given any assurances from the Bengals’ brass.

No. I wouldn’t expect any or ask for any,” Lewis said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN. Lewis then indicated that it was the “least” of his worries when posed with the question about whether he wanted to coach next season. “My job is to coach the football team,” Lewis stated.

Cincinnati currently finds itself at 5-7 on the season and has lost six of its past seven games following a 4-1 start to the campaign.

This comes on the heels of suggestions that the 2017 season would be Lewis’ final in Cincinnati. But in a shocking manner, the Bengals signed him to an extension that winter.

The Bengals’ coach since all the way back in 2003, Lewis has posted a 130-119-3 record during that span. Record-wise, he’s among the most successful coaches in franchise history.

Unfortunately for the longtime head man, his lack of playoff success coupled with regression from the Bengals over the past few seasons seems to make it a foregone conclusion he’ll be out of a job following the 2018 campaign.

Cincinnati has not made the playoffs since 2015, and Lewis boasts a career 0-7 record as a head coach in the postseason.

Then again, it’s the Bengals. We have absolutely no idea what this organization is going to do moving forward.
