If Sunday’s Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t painful enough for Houston Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, it is now. The NFL fined Clowney $40,010 for his hit on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles.

The hit came late in the fourth quarter on Philadelphia’s final drive. Foles got the throw off on third down for a big gain and was immediately crushed by Houston’s top outside linebacker.
Clowney was flagged for roughing the passer and the yardage helped push Philadelphia even further down the field to set up the game-winning field goal.
Clowney should be able to easily afford the fine, especially if he gets the contract he is seeking this offseason. At least he wasn’t fined nearly as much as Julian Edelman.
